About

Don Wolford

Bio: Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog. I was born and raised in a large Catholic family in northeast Ohio. I fell in love with literature in college (many years ago). I dabbled in writing off and on over the years but found I wasn't ready to write. I hadn't lived enough yet. Now I'm pushing 60 and am a serious writer. Over the past six years I've written nine novels and almost 20 short stories. I write literary fiction mostly but also write in other genres (e.g., historical fiction, fantasy, humor). I published an article in the journal Studies in American Jewish Literature. It's called "The Shattered Flask: Creation Gone Awry in Bernard Malamud's God's Grace." I'd love to hear your comments on my writing and anything else you want to say. Thanks.

  1. Hi Don

Thank you for visiting my blog and following me. I appreciate it.

I went to graduate school in North East Ohio! So that part of the country will always hold a special place in my heart.

It is inspiring that you circled back and picked your passion for writing. That is wonderful. I am very much looking foward to getting to know your work.

  2. Don, thank you for following my blog. I love meeting fellow writers and reading their work. I, too, picked up the pen later in life. Now I’m searching for the voice needed to tell a good tale.

Good luck with your endeavors. I look forward to reading more of your work.

  3. Thank you for the immediate like and follow Don. That post was a sort of coming-out and re-entering the world of creative writing. I’m still a bit shaky, literally (pun intended). So thank you again for being there.

I look forward to reading you.

  4. Hi Don! I must admit, when I saw “A writer of literary fiction”, I got excited. There doesn’t seem to be many of “us” on the blogosphere… Thanks for stopping by and I’m off to explore your world!

    1. Joanna, thanks. You’ve set an ambitious goal in writing 24 short stories in 12 months. Do you submit them for publication? Are you familiar with NewPages.com? Good luck.

      1. Hi Don, yup it is an ambitious challenge, that’s for sure. I’m on track so far this year – just hope I can keep it up. The year is shaping up to be a bit crazier than I anticipated so scheduling writing time isn’t quite as straightforward as I envisaged in January (as evidenced by how long it’s taken me to reply to you!). But hey, c’est la vie. Yes, I do submit them all in writing competitions but I decided to focus on the writing side of the challenge, rather than a goal to try to be selected in a specific number as the odds are quite low that I’ll get anywhere! Thanks for the tip about NewPages.com, I hadn’t come across that site before….best wishes, Jo

  8. Hi there,
I read through some of your writing, and I like what I see.
Forget about waiting for the big publishing deal and just do it on Amazon. I assure you it won’t be a mistake.
    Keep us posted.
PS: I looked for your work on Goodreads (and they cover every book ever published) but couldn’t find you. Time to come out, Don. I’ll be rooting for you.
